I thought that you would like to see the photo that has been forwarded to me, of the ongoing work at Sanderstead Station. Sanderstead Station’s open style brick shelters have had frontages installed to provide warmer and more protected areas for passengers to wait. The shelters were quite dark due to the colour of the brick so the insides have been painted to brighten them up. Additionally, the lighting has been adjusted so that it comes on whenever anyone enters the waiting areas. The benches have also been moved together to allow for a wheelchair space.
These improvements are part of the Passenger Benefit Fund. The fund is supporting a range of work across the network including waiting shelters, refurbished toilets, more seats, information screens, automatic doors, more cycle parking, refurbished waiting rooms, station planters and LED lighting.
The details of these projects station by station can be download here: https://www.southernrailway.com/improvingyourstations.
Hopefully we will have more opportunities to travel in 2021. Cllr Yvette Hopley
