Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of joining Radcliffe Housing Association (RHA) on an estate walkabout. As a regular participant in walkabouts on council estates in Kenley, such as Croftleigh and Oaklands, I find these visits invaluable for engaging with residents and addressing council-related concerns.
In the past, I’ve walked with RHA to review issues around the balancing pond in Purcell Close, which serves as a drainage system for stormwater runoff from Kenley Lane and the railway. The pond is specifically designed to collect and gradually disperse excess water into the ground, helping to manage local flood risks.
During this recent visit, it was great to meet with RHA’s tenancy officer and asset manager to discuss various concerns, including waste management, overhanging trees, and the ongoing maintenance of the balancing pond. I look forward to attending more estate meetings in the future to continue addressing these important issues.
P.S. If you’re interested, I recommend reading a case study by Previsico on how RHA utilizes their flood alert system to proactively maintain and clear the balancing pond ahead of major weather incidents: https://previsico.com/case-studies/how-radcliffe-housing-proactively-mitigated-flood-
