The Brighton Road Cycle Scheme was introduced in April 2023 after approval by the previous Labour Council.
Since then, we've been listening to residents and businesses to see what they think - and 89% of people who expressed an opinion wanted the wands removed. So we're going to do just that.
The widened cycle lanes will remain - albeit wand-free. There will be a review of a number of junctions on Brighton Road and the council will be considering proposals to support local businesses by introducing more free parking bays in side roads. The proposals also include having loading times outside residents’ homes from 10am to 4pm, making it more convenient for deliveries.
We are confident that these changes will benefit cyclists using the widened lanes, as well as supporting local businesses and helping to reduce congestion.
