2024 kicked off in style with an immersive and interactive dance experience held in the Whitgift Centre Last Weekend. On Sunday 14th we celebrated Tamil Heritage Month as the Braithwaite Hall hosted a Pongal Festival.
Croydon started 2024 as the London Borough of Culture with events that celebrated both the community and diversity which make Croydon such a great place to live.
On Friday I watched (and took part in) an incredible community dance and singing experience in the Whitgift Centre. Joined by a cross generation audience this performance was created by Requardt & Rosenberg and The Place and certainly bought an air of mystery and the super natural to the heart of Croydon.
Then on Sunday it was a pleasure to join the Tamil community in the Braithwaite Hall as we celebrated the beginning of the harvest ‘Pongal Festival’ together. It was particularly impressive to watch so many talented young people from the community perform both dance and musical pieces and to share tradition food with one another.
We also start the year with a new grants programme ‘Croydon Loves You’ for small community wellbeing projects. For more information please visit Culturecroydon.com
