Residents will be aware that the Sandrock site on Upper Shirley Road has been continuing through its protracted planning history. The last update was when the latest planning application was being considered that changed the previous plan for flats in the car park (approved on appeal by Bristol) to one that had 9 houses with small individual gardens.
Whilst still being over-development, in my opinion I felt that this application was in fact a better option than the one that currently has permission (which I strongly objected to). It was my expectation that this latest application would go to committee as previous ones have done but in the end it was refused by officers before it could even get there. Plans only go to committee if the decision officers are making is at odds with objectors. In this case we all objected!
I have attached to this post (at the bottom of the page) the decision notice so you can all see the grounds on which this application was refused. I have also put the link below to all the documents connected with the application so you can have a look if you want to (there are quite a lot of them!).
My expectation from here is that we will see a revised application come forward which seeks to comply with the issues raised in the decision notice. I think it would be surprising if they appealed this decision as there are a significant number of grounds for refusal in the notice.
It is worth noting that the prior application that Croydon refused but Bristol agreed is still in force and can still be built so the situation still needs close monitoring as to its future.
I’ll try to keep you all updated as things move forward.
