I have just received an update from Officers today, regarding my recent report to the Council for the very high levels of litter I found in the Children's Playground, just off Queen Elizabeth's Drive, in New Addington.
As a part of our Litter Pick Session held in Milne Park held last Saturday, the team collected three bags of litter, including glass, from this area alone!
Following my findings, I then raised with officers to check how often the children's playground is cleared of litter by Croydon Council's Maintenance Team, including the emptying of bins surrounding the playground.
I have now received the following response from Officers:
Dear Cllr Roche.
Thank you for your email and raising your concerns with the grounds maintenance team.
Queen Elizabeth’s Drive Playground is attended by the cleansing team a minimum of twice a week, when they do the operatives will empty the bins, litter pick the area and remove any broken glass.
Unfortunately the playground bins get full really quick, due to the playground location and its popularity.
I will request the grounds maintenance repairs team to upgrade the bins in the play area to address the seasonal litter increase.
I am very pleased that due to my intervention, the bins surrounding the playground will soon be upgraded to a larger capacity. I hope the upgrade will lower the likelihood of littering within the Children's Playground, due to bins being regularly full of litter!
I have asked officers to also upgrade the bins in the other Children's Playgrounds in the area, because unfortunately this issue was not unique to this one playground!
Please let me know if the litter problem persists in this area, and I will take the necessary action!
Thank You.
