Statement from New Addington Conservatives
Earlier today the New Addington (Labour) Councillors Facebook page was deactivated. This was a major avenue for residents to contact their Councillors and the deactivation of the Facebook page makes it very difficult to do this.
Later this afternoon, we heard of the resignations of Councillor Simon Hall, Councillor for New Addington North and former Cabinet Member for Finance, and Councillor Tony Newman, Woodside Councillor and former Leader of Croydon Council. Whilst it is clear that Simon Hall must accept significant responsibility for the financial mismanagement and bankruptcy of Croydon Council, it is also obvious that many of those Labour Councillors that remain should share the responsibility and culpability for the neglectful way they have administered the Authority. Whether it be housing, planning, the actions of Brick by Brick or the failure to properly scrutinise the running of Croydon Council, many of the Labour members continuing to sit in Council need to consider their positions.
Simon Hall has been a Councillor in New Addington since 2005 and, despite his actions as Cabinet Member, has been a respected local Ward Councillor. Simon, being the only one of four New Addington Councillors to actually live in New Addington, leaves a void in local representation. New Addington Conservatives strongly condemn any threats to Simon Hall and his family. We would like to thank Simon for his contribution to New Addington and wish him, and his family, all the very best.
