Last week Cllr. Andy Stranack (Shadow Cabinet for Safer Croydon, Communities and Business Recovery) met with New Addington Boxing Club to look at securing their long term future, a number of possibilities are being explored including working with Play Place, exploring the future use of Goldcrest youth club and the use of other community venues such as Wolsey Chapel.
The Boxing Club were initially told that they needed to vacate there existing premises at the ACA building on the 31st March. However, following a campaign led by the boxing club and the situation being raised by Conservative Councillors at a full Council meeting. The Labour Council has backed down and allowed the boxing club to stay at the ACA until December 2021,
Cllr. Andy Stranack
“Since the boxing club started its campaign highlighting the terrible way the Council has treated them, it is really encouraging to see the community come together to support this New Addington Club. A few weeks ago I helped introduce the club to Chris Hennis CEO of Play Place a leading youth charity in New Addington and this week I joined them up with Dave and Wolsey Chapel to explore a potential new training base for the club. By everyone working together I am sure we can secure a bright future for this club that is so important to young people living in New Addington and the surrounding area.”
