On Friday, I joined our MP, Chris Philp on a visit to St David’s Preparatory School in Purley.
My ward colleague, Cllr Holly Ramsey and I had both been in touch with the Head, Sarah Syradd about road safety issues on the Woodcote Valley Road, with the school raising serious concerns following a recent accident and some near-misses.
During the visit, we discussed a lot, including different safety measures the Council could deploy, what the school are doing to promote road safety, police involvement and the possibility of a petition which a councillor can present at full Council.
Following a meeting with Sarah, we were taken to a classroom to meet the pupil leadership team and school council, along with a parent, Mr Rebeiro who is supporting the school with this.
The children were lovely and motivated, clearly passionate about making a difference and tackling this important issue. The children shared some excellent ideas from a zebra crossing to better signage to cameras, and they’d made some terrific posters to raise awareness too.
We will take the petition forward and will be raising various issues with the Council to try and make a difference in this area.
