It was good to attend the Coulsdon Town Police Ward Panel last night. Here are just some of the issues discussed:
- The police will be working with the security staff at the Pembroke Pub (when it re-opens) to ensure that the Town Centre is safe at night time;
- Car thefts are a visible issue and police are working across Borough borders to tackle it, but small measures can be taken that will greatly reduce the chance of your car being stolen - including using a steering lock, storing wireless car keys in a "faraday box" (~£20), keeping hedges low so that thieves cannot hide behind them, or even installing a lockable post at the end of your driveway;
- Phone thefts were an issue in Purley particularly around the end-of-school peak, but police have been working pro-actively to tackle this so these have reduced over recent months;
- Going forward, police will continue to have Violence Against The Person as a borough-wide area to focus on, but we also asked that they pay particular attention to anti-social behaviour in Coulsdon as often residents can feel unsafe even without an actual present danger - for example around Station Approach;
- We will soon have a new Sergeant. Due to the uplift in police numbers, there will be more Sergeants covering fewer wards each, so they will be able to better focus their attention on a smaller area.
