Update from my previous blog post:
Concerning Labour's proposal to introduce an unfair admin fee of £195 on the local Community, most of whom would not be able to afford the fee!
I recently wrote to Cllr Muhammed Ali who is the Cabinet Member responsible, calling on him to reverse this unfair, and ill-thought-out policy change! It would have meant many streets across Croydon who wanted to register for the Play Streets scheme, would have been severely restricted, as most would not be able to cover the costs.
Labour have mismanaged our boroughs finances since 2014, and as a result made the Council bankrupt! It is not fair to then pass on that cost to communities across the borough, especially for a scheme which is meant to promote Communities coming together and encouraging Children to be more active!
Sadly, this is another example of Labour rushing out poor policy changes, which would have a detrimental impact on communities, with no real thought being given on what these changes mean for local communities across the borough!
I am glad that on this occasion, Labour has seen sense, and reversed this dreadful policy change:
"In response to various queries about play streets, I would like to clarify that @yourcroydon has always supported play street events & will continue to support anyone who wants to organise a play street without any charges. #playstreets" - Cllr Muhammed Ali, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Croydon.
I will continue to monitor the situation going forward.
Cllr Scott Roche
Shadow Cabinet Member for Sustainable Croydon.
