We have received the following information about road closures in our local area due to SGN replacing gas pipes.
This is what we have received:
"Dear Stakeholder,
We’re preparing to carry out essential gas network upgrades in the Sanderstead and Riddlesdown area. The work will replace the existing old metal pipes with PE (plastic) pipes to ensure that we continue to provide a safe and reliable supply of gas. This is part of an HSE 30-year programme of work to replace our old mains, reaching the end of their useful lives, with new, reliable plastic pipe.
Our contractor, WCB Utilities, who are completing this project on our behalf, will be starting work in the week beginning 16th September.
To ensure everyone’s safety, we’ll need to close the following roads around our work site while we have excavations open. The work will be carried out in phases.
- Phase 1 – Westfield Avenue – from 16 September to approximately 15 November we will be working in Westfield Avenue. We will need to close the road from 26 September. Our engineers will be working from the junction of Rectory Park to the junction of Copthorne Rise. The closure point will change as we move along the road. We’ll also need to close the junction of Copthorne Rise to make the connections.
- Phase 2 – Copthorne Rise – This will be closed at the junction with Westfield Avenue from 14 October and we will work towards Hyde Drive. We will close the road at the junction with Hyde Road while we make the connections into this road. We will reopen Copthorne Rise while we progress through Hyde Road.
- Phase 3 – Hyde Road – from 21 October for approximately 5 weeks, we will need to close the road to ensure that everyone remains safe around our work site. Once this part of our work is completed, we will return to Copthorne Rise to finish the last section on this road. Prior to returning to Copthorne Rise, we will reopen Hyde Road, but some works may remain.
Access will be maintained for residents and businesses and a signed diversion will in place,
We’re writing to residents and other local stakeholders to explain the details of this work. This letter can be shared with anyone you feel may have an interest in our work.
What this will mean for you
- Please advise visitors and deliveries that they will need to take an alternative route to your property.
- Please check with your bus company to see if any bus stops or routes are affected.
We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks, therefore we only use traffic management which we feel is efficient enough to complete these works safely for the public and our engineers."
Separately we have been told that the start dates may actually be delayed so please keep an eye on local signage.
