Statement from Jason Perry, Mayor of Croydon:
I am very concerned that Sadiq Khan has been caught making false and dishonest statements to the London Assembly. He claimed that he was not briefed on the ULEZ Consultation results, but documents reveal that this was not true.
Thousands of pounds were spent trying to manipulate the result and skew it in his favour, and over 5,000 responses were improperly removed from the consultation altogether. Sadiq Khan should listen to Londoners and rethink his plans. The expanded ULEZ will cost Londoners £350,000 a day, but the Mayor’s own report shows that it will make almost no difference to air quality.
The Labour, Lib Dem and Green Parties all supported the ULEZ at City Hall, but Croydon’s Conservative-led Council has made its opposition clear and will consider every option open to us.
