It is very pleasing to be able to report progress on the former Selsdon garage site, which has been derelict for more than a quarter of a century. Although planning permission was granted in February 2024, this was not the first time a redevelopment proposal has received planning approval, and previous approvals came to naught. This new proposal is a step beyond planning approval in that it is an important element in establishing a business case for the development to go forward. More details of the approved planning application are available in the Planning Register on the Council website under application number 21/04116/FUL.
This new proposal is for the Council to take on long leases of various development sites across Croydon, including the former Selsdon garage site, to support housing needs through increasing affordable housing supply. The development will be delivered by Inspired Structured Solutions who will provide all funding and carry the development risk.
This development when completed will provide 35 flats which will help towards alleviating the lack of Affordable Homes and consequent pressure on the Council’s homelessness costs caused by a lack of supply and escalating costs in the private rented sector. The developer will include technology and building design that will enhance the provision of energy through self-generation methods which they believe will result in significantly reduced energy costs for residents.
