Back in July, I presented a petition at the Council calling for a pedestrian crossing on Pampisford Road working with local resident, Jack after he showed me some terrible footage showing vehicles mounting the road to overtake traffic.
Our petition was also covered by local press.
Whilst we still don’t have a pedestrian crossing, I am pleased that the Council have taken the following actions:
- Installation of an additional bollard and a kerb raised outside 37 Pampisford Road raised
- Deployment of sensors to track speeds in November 2024
The surveys taken in November suggested the following:
- Percentage of vehicles travelling over the 20mph speed limit - 56%
- Percentage of vehicles travelling 10% over the 20mph speed limit + 2mph (=24mph) - 32% - this is the criteria for issuing a speeding ticket
- Percentage of vehicles travelling 15mph over the 20mph speed limit (=35mph) - 3% - this is the criteria for prosecution
Council officers have assured me that this data will be used in their updated bid for CiL/s106 funding later this month. As part of this, I am calling for a pedestrian crossing north of the junction for best access to the Rotary playing fields. Alongside this, I am continuing to chase on improved markings and signage.
