Cllr Jason Perry, Leader of Croydon’s Conservative Councillors, commented:
"My revamped Conservative Shadow Cabinet team is totally committed to holding Croydon’s failing Labour Council to account.
Croydon is sadly on the verge of bankruptcy due to the Labour Council's consistent failure to make sound policy decisions. This appalling situation could have been avoided, instead the Council has accrued nearly £2 billion of debt – that’s £15,000 of debt for every hour since Labour took control in 2014.
Council Tax is at record levels, some 400 loyal staff are set to lose their jobs, and our most vulnerable residents will suffer the consequences of Labour’s mismanagement.
The Conservatives in Croydon will be making the case for change in the run up to the 2022 local elections,by opposing Labour’s poor planning decisions, exposing their loss making development company, Brick x Brick, which is consistently building on our green spaces, challenging the dirt and decay on our streets and their general contempt for our wonderful borough and its residents."
Cllr Perry also paid tribute to those leaving Shadow Cabinet:
"We would like to pay tribute to Cllr Helen Pollard for her service to the Shadow Cabinet. Helen played a crucial role holding the Labour Council to account for drift and delay on key projects such as the Fairfield Halls and their lack of investment in our fantastic parks.
Once again a special thanks also goes to Cllr Tim Pollard who has worked tirelessly leading our Group. It is our loss that family commitments have meant that he has had to reduce his role in our group. We wish him and Helen well for the future.”
