This afternoon I met the appointed contractors - CField Construction - to hear the latest about the next stage of the Lion Green Road development.
A lot was covered, but a few notes in summary:
- 4th September – planned site possession by contractors.
- January 2021 – car park completion.
- Early 2021 – concrete frame works to commence.
- Mid 2021 – façade works to commence.
- Late 2021 – internal works to residential blocks to commence.
- Q1 2022 - external landscaping to commence.
- Practical completion - 18th November 2022.
Croydon's Parking Department have asked the contractors to keep 54 spaces open throughout the construction. They’ve said they will aim for at least 60. This may drop during brief periods to facilitate construction where it's unavoidable. A more specific set of dates and times where this might happen is currently being worked up to help us all prepare as much as possible. When the site is complete there will be a total of 116 parking spaces will be available for the public currently planned once construction is complete. These’ll be short-term and long-term parking available
A key concern is how they'll manage construction during peak traffic times – we've been assured they'll avoid peak times so especially during rush hour the impact on the community should be minimal. This will include the contractors having traffic marshalls to manage the process. We local councillors will be keeping an eye on this as construction progresses.
Monthly newsletters will be produced to keep local residents and businesses informed of progress on site and upcoming works.
A meeting for the public
This afternoon's meeting was a briefing for councillors, but the contractors have agreed to host a meeting for the wider public tomorrow evening that I would encourage you to attend to ask your own questions:
The public ‘Meet the Contractor’ meeting is being held tomorrow, Wednesday 19th August from 6pm-7pm via Zoom. The link to the meeting is included in the attached newsletter which CField distributed to residents last week. We have also included details on Commonplace here.
