I was pleased to join the Conservative mayoral candidate Cllr Jason Perry and councillor candidate Alasdair Stewart in accompanying Simon Cripps & Catherine Garrad of Purley BID on a walkabout of Purley this afternoon. We discussed the many issues facing local businesses as they emerge from lockdown; these include traffic jams caused by the awkward kink at the bottom of Russell Hill Road, the flooding problems at the back of Russell Hill Parade (behind the Foxley Hatch), and of course the blight on the High Street caused by the continued closure of the Purley Leisure Centre. This comes at a time when, as announced at tonight's Council meeting, Labour seems able to find £100k at the drop of a hat to improve the Monk's Hill sports facility.
