Well, what a magnificent turnout for last month's bonfire, the site was completely cleared by the end of the morning, despite more timber being brought in all the time. Last year I recall we were short of volunteers, but maybe the fine weather on the day encouraged everyone to come and help. Whatever the reason, thank you for your hard, but enjoyable efforts.
This month we will concentrate on clearing some of the smaller green spaces, which since mowing by the Council has all but stopped, are being overtaken by new growth, mainly hazel. This growth needs to be cut right down to ground level and taken to the bonfire site. As usual, loppers and bow saws are the tools for the job, please remember anyone using a bow saw must wear thick protective gloves. At least the chap in the cartoon is wearing gloves!
Some previously cleared spaces need the attention of the brush cutter, so a volunteer or two will be required for that job, safety equipment will be provided, but very stout shoes are essential.
Sadly, many of the little saplings that were planted in February last year didn’t survive the hot summer. Another job this month is to check all the poly tubes and any that show no sign of life within, to be removed along with the wooden stake and taken back to the Green Room for storage.
Plenty to do this month, so please, as many volunteers as last month and we will be assured of a productive and enjoyable day. Don’t forget your elevenses!
HOT NEWS, the FOPB will be holding another summer party this year. The excuse is the Coronation of King Charles 3rd, the reason is the Community, I did suggest that we call it the COROMUNITY PARTY, but our webmaster positively refused to put that on the website, so it will be a COMMUNITY PARTY IN THE PARK Sunday June 11th. Put the date in the diary now, it is planned to be similar to last year’s party, only bigger and better, more information to follow.
Looking forward to seeing as many of our members on the 8th as possible.
