There was a lot of social media comment last week about the fresh water pouring out of the street gully outside 61A Foxley Lane because several people reported that SESW & Thames Water both initially said that it wasn't their responsibility.
It was a tricky situation: in general, street gullies are the responsibility of the Council (or TFL if it's on a Red Route), the underlying waste water & sewage drains belong to Thames Water, fresh water pipes belong either to SESW or Thames Water, and the dividing line between the two goes right through the centre of Purley.
In this case fresh water was escaping from a pipe somewhere West of 61A Foxley lane, and it was finding its way through the ground and leaking into Thames' drainage pipes, which is why water was coming out of the gully.
When SESW initially said that it wasn't their problem, I challenged this decision because fresh water was coming out of the drain, and I'm glad that they eventually conceded and fixed it.
