At the last Cabinet meeting I was delighted to hear Mayor Jason Perry announce a £500k fund to restore the graffiti team to tackle graffiti in Croydon and I’m sure Waddon residents will be equally as happy. Graffiti is not only an eyesore, it is a terrible blight on our community and I’m glad to see this service brought back to life. The previous Labour administration scrapped the cleaning graffiti team and it is this Conservative administration under Mayor Perry that has restored it.
Since being elected I have worked very hard to get graffiti in Waddon cleaned up and the results are clear to see. Local residents including those with young families no longer have to walk through their streets covered in spray paint on a daily basis. To put it simply, graffiti is vandalism and we shouldn’t have to put up with it!
So what have I achieved so far? I have been successful in clearing up the following sites of graffiti:
- Both sides of the bridge over the railway lines on Waddon Road
- The footbridge between Epsom Road and Benson Road
- Epsom road by the bus stops
- Harrison’s Rise
- The corner of Eland Road and Epsom Road
It is very rewarding to make such a positive change in Waddon and as the local Conservative Councillor for the ward I am committed to working with Mayor Perry, the Council and the newly restored graffiti cleaning team to combat this bane on our community.
It’s time once again to take pride in our local area, our community and Croydon as a whole and this action to tackle graffiti is only the first step!
