It was a pleasure to join in with all the events surrounding ‘A Very Croydon Christmas’ last weekend. Events began on Friday 8th December when I joined the Mayor to meet with Tony Fairweather and visit his amazing display of a ‘Christmas Windrush Front Room’ in the Central Library.
As dusk fell I walked through Queen’s Garden to visit the ‘Croydon Loves You’ light display on my way to a magical evening of entertainment and carols at the Fairfield Halls hosted by the London Mozart Players ably assisted by Matt Walters organ,Croydon Voices Choir, Croydon Bach Choir, Croydon Philharmonic Choir, Old Palace of John Whitgift School Choir.
On Saturday 9th events moved back to the central library, where I had another chance to meet Bjon the Polar Bear. I also enjoy craft making activities and spending time with the Museum team alongside watching a performance of ‘Meet me a Tree’ the tots opera performed by HurleyBurley Theatre. But the greatest honour of my weekend was meeting the Ukrainian refugees who made a Ukrainian Didukh for me.
Continuing the Christmas Spirit it was also good to spend time with Church Leaders from across Croydon at the 133 Christmas Lunch at the wonderful Praise House building on Tamworth Road on Wednesday 6th December.
