After a week of fantastic local news – both that the Purley Pool planning application has been re-submitted for approval in the coming weeks, and that a lease for the new Coulsdon Banking Hub has been signed for 152 Brighton Road, with fitting out work started – I am delighted to share another update with you today.
After a lot of work behind the scenes, the planning application for our long-awaited NHS medical centre in Coulsdon has finally been submitted.
This is another essential local priority that I have been campaigning tirelessly for, with local residents, local councillors Ian Parker, Luke Shortland, Mario Creatura, Margaret Bird and Nikhil Sherine Thampi, local residents associations, and Mayor Jason Perry.
Within hours of being re-elected last July, I called the CEO of Croydon Health Services NHS Trust to chase on this top priority, and I have been meeting regularly with him and Mayor Perry to push it forward since.
Last year, having helped secure NHS agreement for the £9.8m investment needed, I shared an update that our local NHS had won the bidding to buy the Malcolm Road site.
So it is great to see the planning application finally submitted.
Our new medical centre will have five treatment rooms, car parking, and pedestrian access from both Chipstead Valley Road and Woodcote Grove Road.
This builds on my work to support our local NHS that started with securing £21 million for Croydon University Hospital’s new A&E Department.
I was also pleased to share an update last October that my campaigning with local residents had led to a further expansion of services at Purley Hospital – with new Community Diagnostic Centre and minor elective surgery facilities now open – on top of the extended opening hours at the Purley GP Hub.

Please do share this news with friends, family and neighbours, so that together we can make the strongest case for Coulsdon medical centre to be approved as soon as possible.
