Thank you Sanderstead

Since the election last week I have been stopped on the streets of Sanderstead by lots of residents keen to know the result of the local election in Sanderstead. Most already knew the news that a mild UKIP surge in key marginals and a total collapse in the Liberal Democrat vote has handed control of the Town Hall to Labour, but the residents were all touchingly concerned that they should continue to be represented locally by their current Conservative team.
So here, for the record, is the result as published on the Croydon Council web site:
BINDMAN, Diane (Green Party) 422
HALE, Lynne Carol (Conservative Party) 2691
HARRIS, Stephen Green Party 316
HESMONDHALGH, Thomas (Liberal Democrats) 266
HILL, Mathew Dimas (Labour Party) 570
HOPLEY, Yvette Rose (Conservative Party) 2545
KEYNES, Toby William (Liberal Democrats) 208
LOVESEY, Thomas Senol Felice (Labour Party) 540
MORAN, Elizabeth Mary (Liberal Democrats) 242
NABUKEERA, Stella (Labour Party) 491
POLLARD, Timothy Stuart (Conservative Party) 2463
RICHARDS, Marc (Green Party) 295
SMITH, Claire (UKIP) 891
The turn out was 44.8%, which is pretty impressive for a local & Euro election.
So Lynne, Yvette and I have been re-elected and now knuckle down to the task of keeping Labour scrutinised in office. A very big thank you to all those residents who supported us and also to the legion of volunteers who delivered our election leaflets, displayed our posters and worked quietly behind the scenes to keep Sanderstead Conservative.
