Doble's Close re-naming

In 2006 the A23 relief road for Coulsdon town centre was opened, and in doing so the road split Windermere Road into two parts - one longer road with many hundreds of residents, and a shorter close nearer the town centre.
Despite the road ceasing to exist as a whole, the two halves kept the name 'Windermere Road'. It struck me that this should be recitifed and after speaking to residents and local businesses, I worked with Croydon Council to change the name of the shorter road.
On the corner of the site is Doble Motorcycles, a local business that has been trading on the site for many years, first establishing in 1967. It seemed fitting that such a pillar of the local community should have the road named after them, and so we settled on re-naming the short stretch of Windermere Road as Doble's Close.
You can read about the impressive history of the Doble family and their award-winning business on their website.
The Mayor of Croydon will be coming to officially opening the new road on Wednesday 3rd September at 11.30am. All local residents are welcome to attend what should hopefully be a very special occasion for Coulsdon.
I'm proud to have played a small part in the history of the town, and I hope over the next four years to continue to be able to support the residents and businesses of Coulsdon West.
