RMT force no trains in Coulsdon South tomorrow and Wednesday

Members of the RMT union will walk out for 24 hours from 11am on Tuesday April 26 as part of a dispute over plans to change conductors’ jobs.
This means Southern is unable to run any trains from Coulsdon South station on those dates. Train services provided by other operators are not affected by this strike, and will run as usual. However, they are likely to be busier as a consequence.
Southern’s parent company Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) want to have drivers open and close train doors instead, in a move they say will make employs more visible and of greater help to passengers. However, transport unions say that driver-only trains will threaten passenger safety, as well as jobs. This is utterly ludicrous.
A spokesman for Southern Rail has said: “A strike would be unnecessary and damaging. The changes we are making to the conductor role mean there will be no job losses and no reduction in salary for any staff, whilst passengers will benefit from having more visible staff on trains.”
Two more 24-hour walkouts are planned for May 10 and May 12. In the RMT ballot, 306 voted in favour of strikes whilst only 14 voted against. Southern Rail say that there will be no service on many routes, and ‘only a limited service’ between 7.30am and 6pm on other routes. They add: “Queuing systems will be in place at many stations that are open so you may have a long wait before you are able to board a train. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee to get you to your destination.”
Southern Metro services will operate as but are expected to be very busy, particularly between Purley, Croydon and London Bridge and London Victoria to be much busier than normal. London routes with no Southern service on April 26, May 10 and May 12:
