Free parking reduction for Coulsdon

'To support our local economies, our district centres will offer free parking for the first hour. This will not only make shopping easier for residents but will also support our local traders in difficult times.'
These words can be found on page 15 of Labour's 'Ambitious for Croydon' manifesto.
I've recently learned that Croydon's Labour Council will be breaking this manifesto promise and reducing the free parking on Brighton Road in Coulsdon from 1 hour to 30 mins.
As well as this the Council has decided to increase parking charges. For example, on the 2-Hour tariff in Coulsdon the cost of staying the full 2 hours has gone from £1.80 to £2.40.
I have had several local businesses contact me about this, worried for their livelihoods. Times are tough for small businesses, so I struggle to see why this Labour Council are insisting on doing everything it can to close down trade in Coulsdon. I will be working with Steve O'Connell, our excellent GLA member; Chris Philp MP and the other local Councillors in opposing this regressive and damaging decision.
If you would like to join our opposition then you can email Cllr Kathy Bee (the Cabinet Member in charge) using firstname.lastname@example.org. You may also want to write in to the local newspapers: email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org.
Labour claimed to be 'open and transparent', this latest debacle adds to the mound of evidence that they are the exact opposite.
