Permission granted for 26 Woodcrest Road

Last night I attended Croydon Council's planning committee to speak against an application to build two houses on the plot of 26 Woodcrest Road in Coulsdon.
This was the third time that the application had come forward for ths site, and despite two previous refusals the Labour-dominated planning committee sadly voted it through.
There are lots of reasons why this is a ludicrous decision, but principally the scheme does not differ in any material respects from the previous two applications, so why it was permitted is truly beyond me.
Previous Council reports rejected the design of the building based on it being out of keeping with the area and it being congested on the plot. Residents would be perfectly happy with one property replacing the one currently on the site, but the applicant was intent on squeezing two on the site. There are no other plots on Woodcrest Road that mirror this site plan, and so by very definition is 'out of keeping with the area'.
As it that were not bad enough, the two new proposed buildings stick out 8m and 8.8m respectively behind the backs of its two neighbours. If that isn't 'out of keeping' then I don't know what is.
Despite speaking against it with 53 other objecting residents, and with support from all of the Conservative Councillors on the panel, all six Labour Councillors supported it and so the scheme will now be built.
This is the price normal, hard-working residents pay when Labour win control of Croydon Council.
Next Wednesday Coulsdon West has three planning applications going to the planning committee that we will be objecting to. I fear that it will be a similar story then as last night. We can but try. Please do try to attend the meeting if you can.
All details are available on the Croydon Council website, along with application details.
