Covid-19 - community support
20/03/2020 14:59:00......Posted by Gareth Streeter

The Government has advised everyone to keep social contact to a minimum in a bid to combat the coronavirus.  Those aged over 70, or with underlying health conditions, should observe this advice even more strictly.

Understandably, many residents worry about how they can meet their basic needs while observing this important advice.  Here are two organisations worth contacting if additional support is needed.

We (your local councillors) are in the process of contacting local supermarkets to understand what special provisions they are making for older and vulnerable people.  We will post more information here when we have it.

Fallen branch removed from Parkfields
13/02/2020 17:38:00.......Posted by Gareth Streeter

The fallen branch has now been removed from Parkfields.

The branch was causing some concern to residents and we’ve been lobbying officers to make its removal a priority.

Please do get in touch with us if you notice anything else like this around Shirley.

A great night at the Shirley Oaks Xmas party
15/12/2019 22:51:00.......Posted by Gareth Streeter

Richard and Gareth had a great time at the turning on of the Shirley Oaks Christmas tree lights.

A glass (or two) of mulled wine, Christmas music and good company made for a fantastic evening.

The event was organised by the hard working team at SOVRA.  It’s just one of many events around the year that helps bring the village together.

Looking forward to next year already!

A Success Story
10/05/2019 15:19:00.......Posted by Sue Bennett

'From little acorns grow mighty oaks'and from one man's vision a great success story, from a kick about in Ashburton Park to winners of the Tandridge Leage Cup Final in one season and winners of the Metropolitan Police Football Cup.  I was delighted alongside my Colleague Cllr Stranyck to attend the Cup Final, the winning goal in the last 5 minutes and a well deserved victory..  A victory also for hard work, team work and dedication from committed volunteers.  A group of boys who might otherwise have turned in the wrong direction now belong to a cohesive, disciplined 'family' of likeminded football mad friends. Shirley North Councillors have been delighted to support and encourage and fund them from the start of this journey.
