During 2020, planning permission was granted for about 12 family homes along Higher Drive, Northwood Avenue & Olden Lane to be demolished and replaced by blocks of up to 40 flats, and building work has now started on many of these sites.
The result is an inevitable huge increase in lorry traffic along Higher Drive, and they nearly all gain access via the railway bridge, completely ignoring the 7.5t weight limit which has been there since 2016. One truck has been driven so carelessly that it also demolished the railings at the South end of Foxley Hill Road. I've just reported this damage via the LoveCleanStreets app.
The weight limit is there for a reason: it was discovered during an inspection several years ago that the bridge needs strengthening; there are plans to do something about this in the next few years, and meanwhile introducing a weight limit should slow down the rate of decay. But this won't work unless the weight limit is respected, so I've reported this wanton disregard of the law to the Police, and I hope they'll take appropriate action.
