Whilst unable to host the Croydon Churches Floating Shelter in Sanderstead this year, due to health restrictions, volunteers are still providing meals for homeless people at the Croydon Somewhere Safe to Stay (SSTS) Hub
The SSTS Hub in situated in the grounds of Croydon University Hospital and provides 78 hours of emergency shelter for people from Croydon who find themselves at risk of having to sleep on the streets.
The Hub is open 24-hours a day, 365-days a year and was funded by Croydon Council following major financial backing from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. It is run by Evolve Housing whose staff support people to find suitable accommodation.
Volunteers have been providing a home cooked meal which can be quickly microwaved to provide a welcome hot supper, along with fruit and some chocolates. I went along with my meals on Monday and was delighted to be able to thank Evolve staff for all they are doing in supporting some of our most vulnerable residents.
