Well the axe man cometh and it comes in the form of a very heavy blow on the Adult Social Care department. We warned Labour and they ignored us, the auditors warned you and the residents warned you. All of us were ignored. The recommendations set out in the papers bring about the most damaging cuts in social care services to the most vulnerable here in the borough Cuts of almost 10 million pounds, 10 million pounds.
Residents who are disabled, old and frail and in most need of our support will have their support slashed. As a result of bankrupting the council let’s take a look at what is proposed:
A 20% cut in care packages. How will that be safely delivered to residents? Residents that have contacted me are naturally scared and frightened and wondering how they are going to survive. One resident said that they didn’t fear dying of COVID but they feared dying as a result of severe cuts to their service.
We have already seen the Disability Services disbanded. A saving of 4 million. A complete cut of specialist employment support. People with autism, learning disabilities will suffer.
Mental Health services will also be severely cut despite being so important during a pandemic. Certainly this isn’t the action of a mental health champion.
The Welfare Rights service has been deleted and even the contact centre support service has been attacked.
Care beds for those who need them most have been removed. Contracts to the CVA and neighbourhood care centres have also been cut severing a vital care line.
Nothing is safe in their hands and all because of the dire decisions taken by this Administration, the same people that are in post, the same people pulling the strings and the same people who don’t think that the vulnerable, elderly and disabled should be protected.
You should be ashamed of yourself and what this Administration has done.
A great message for these residents just before Xmas. The residents deserve better Croydon deserves better.
