Together with Catherine Garrad who is the street ambassador for Purley BID, I celebrated the switch-on of Purley's Christmas lights earlier today. Not surprisingly, it was a very muted affair, with only the two of us present, plus Simon Cripps who is CEO of the BID and runs a software development company which is based in the town, but at least we were able to admire the new planters which the BID has recently installed.
We sadly remembered the joy of last year's official switch-on when dozens pf people from local churches and the wider community got together outside the URC, and we look forward to better times returning well before next year's official switch-on.
