A resident recently reported an unpleasant smell from a manhole cover in Hall Way, which is the steep footpath that joins Downs Court Road to Godstone Rd. I reported it to Thames Water and I believe that it has now been fixed, but this set me thinking about the challenge of deciding to whom to report a variety of problems. The LoveCleanStreets app accepts many types of problem report, but it's sometimes quicker to report issues direct to the responsible authority.
I'm sure residents often come across blocked drains and water leaks, and wonder to whom and how they should be reported. The answer, inevitably is that it depends...!
Road gullies are the responsibility of the Council and so all blocked gullies should be reported via the LoveCleanStreets app or the Council's website.
Foul water sewers are the responsibility of Thames Water, so although you can report these problems via LoveCleanStreets, it's quicker to ring Thames Water direct on 0800 3169800 at any time, or use their website
Fresh water leaks, bursts etc on the public highway, footpaths etc are the responsibility of the local water company, which for Croydon is either Thames Water or the Sutton & East Surrey water company, depending on where you live; the dividing line runs right through Purley, so you have to be careful when choosing to whom to report something, but the SESW website will help you to determine the exact boundary.
