The heavy rain over the weeked caused serious flooding all over Croydon and particularly in Purley outside the library. It's obvious why: the water from Foxley & Plough Lanes & Woodcote Valley Road all pours into the gyratory just by the library where it gets trapped because the road rises again towards Foxley Lane's junction with Purley Way. It has nowhere to go, so accumulates near the old children's entrance to the library. If there's a HUGE amount of water then it rises to a depth of two or three feet and at that level, it starts to spill over the slight hill leading to the alleyway to the left of the library. It then pours down the alleyway at the back of Russell Hill Parade, taking everything with it, including even huge commercial wheelie bins. This happened again last weekend leaving puddles about four feet deep.
The Purley BID reported this to me, so I in turn reported this to the drainage department in the Council. As water and flood defences count as an essential Council service, they should not be affected by the Council's financial crisis, so I'm hoping that this problem will be dealt with reasonably quickly.
