It was another busy week for Cllr. Andy Stranack (Shadow Cabinet Member for Safer Croydon and Communities) as he met with Chief Superintendent Dave Stringer to hear what our Safer Neighbourhood Teams and other police teams across Croydon, Sutton and Bromley are doing to tackle crime and keep our streets safe.
Later in the week Andy met up with Chris Hennis (Business Director and Founder) of Play Place that run a number of projects for young people across Croydon and Focusing on the New Addington area. Finally he attended a zoom meeting of The Parental Army a grassroots group of parents and organisations that have been directly impacted by knife crime.
Andy commented
"It has been another eye opening week. I was particularly impressed to learn about the services Play Place operate from Fieldway including the music studio and the auto bike scheme which has been running for 30 years and teaches young people practical mechanical skills alongside key life skills. The Parental Army is doing some amazing work, funding and distributing bleed kits to shops and other community locations across the Borough that could quite literally save a young persons life.
As we enter lockdown it is going to be impossible to get out and visit more community groups but I am hoping to continue to set up some zoom meetings with key partners from the voluntary sector."
