The Brilliant Butterflies project is working with the local friends group to create wildflower areas for butterflies and other insects and Sanderstead Recreation ground has been selected for a new ‘butterfly bank’. The bank will bring colourful chalk grassland wildflowers and butterflies into the community for everyone to enjoy and will help support declining insect populations. The bank will be seeded and planted with wildflowers which will take some time to establish over autumn and next summer. The Brilliant Butterflies team will be: • Using subsoil from the site to create 2 wildflower areas next week. • Seeding and planting plug plants with the help of VOLUNTEERS. Please contact [email protected] if you are interested in volunteering. Work has started and should take no more than two days to complete. Planting will take place on Sunday, 1 November at 2pm. Do contact the Friends of Sanderstead Recreation Ground on their Facebook page if you want to join them. All tools will be provided and is COVID-19 Government compliant.
