There was lots happening as usual this week, even if residents sometimes can't see the results of my efforts!
I lived in postal Purley for nearly 40 years till I moved in 2018 to Kenley, Having recently joined the Purley Nextdoor group, I've found that it's an excellent forum in which people post searches for tradesmen or report dodgy callers, scam emails etc. It's also a great place for people to seek help for issues with Council services, and of course with planning, which remains the #1 hot topic in Purley at the moment.
The fastest way to resolve problems such as missed bin collections, potholes, graffiti, fly-tipping etc is through the excellent Love Clean Streets smartphone app, which has the advantage of a direct link to the contractor Veolia who usually deal with them within two working days.
This last week, I either resolved, or was able to help resolve two bin problems, one bonfire query and one about the rateable value of properties. Not many people know that a government agency called the VOA is responsible for determining the rateable value of properties, and they pass this information to local councils who use it to generate council tax bills. A resident had been waiting for over six months for a valuation of a new property and I was pleased to be able able to point him in the correct direction.
