Cllr. Andy Stranack met up with Steve Phaure (CEO - Croydon Voluntary Action) as he continued to learn more about the amazing role that the community sector undertakes in providing for the diverse and sometimes complex needs of residents across Croydon. Andy recently took up the role as Shadow Cabinet Member for Safer Croydon and Communities. As part of that new role Andy is trying to visit a number of grassroots organisations across Croydon.
Andy commented on his meeting with Steve:-
"It was great to be able to spend some time with Steve this week and hear about some of the amazing work CVA has done, particularly during the current COVID19 crisis. We also discussed the difficult financial situation the Council is in and the potential impact that might have on the community sector. It was also interesting to talk about the complicated procurement procedures that the Council sometimes have that act as a barrier to smaller grassroots organisations from undertaking partnership work with the local authority. There is clearly more work to be done to make sure that the community sector can play a full role to build a better Croydon in the future."
