Last week Andy continued his series of visits to key voluntary sector organisations in Croydon by meet with Ima Miah (CEO - Asian Resource Centre Croydon). The Centre has been operating since 1999 and aims to bring together the different communities and businesses that make up the Asian Community in Croydon.
Cllr. Andy Stranack
"It was fascinating talking with Ima and to learn more about the history of the resource centre as well as the rich and diverse communities that make up the Asian population across Croydon. In a wide ranging discussion we talked about the difficulties the voluntary sector faces to find suitable facilities and venues to run services from and the need for more diversity amongst elected Councillors in terms of both ethnic and social backgrounds.
I was also really impressed by the staff and volunteers at The Hub in Keeley Road. Whilst I was talking with Ima, there was a constant buzz of staff and volunteers preparing food packages to get out to the elderly and isolated in the local community.
