Residents are rightly concerned about the continued closure of the Monk Hill Sports Centre even though other Sports Centres in the Borough such as those in Thornton Heath, Waddon, South Norwood and New Addington have re-opened.
The Council's poor financial position mean that they have prioritised facilities with higher membership numbers and thus higher income. Their stated intention is to open other centres, including Monks Hill, as national and local conditions, including the Council's financial condition, permit.
