37 residents were evacuated from their flats in Montana Close Sanderstead on Sunday evening (9 August) after residents reported smelling “chemicals”. It is thought to have been a gas leak.
Firefighters were called to reports of a smell of chemicals at a flat on Montana Close in South Croydon last night. A 25 metre cordon was put in place as a precaution. Six people were assessed by paramedics at the scene but none required hospital treatment
The Fire Brigade was called at 6.25pm and the incident was over for firefighters by 8.16pm. Two fire engines and around 10 firefighters from Croydon fire station attended the scene."
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "We were called at 6.24pm yesterday (August 9) to reports of an incident on Montana Close, Sanderstead”.
"We dispatched a number of resources to the scene including our hazardous area response unit (HART), an incident response officer, an ambulance crew and medics in cars.
I am pleased that everyone is OK.
