Do you have green fingers, or just like to see Kenley made more beautiful? Do you want to help create a beautiful wildflower meadow at Kenley Station Garden, enriching local biodiversity and promoting the natural beauty of Riddlesdown Common?
Then join us for a community gardening project at Kenley Train Station, organised by Sustrans - a charity making it easier for everyone to walk, wheel and cycle.
We already have our own special gardener who has been beautifying Station Road with flower bulbs, so Ola and I are delighted to see this new initiative from Sustrans.
Sustrans contracted Croydon Council following a grant they have secured from City of London Corporation, to look at an engagement project to improve access from Kenley Train Station to Riddlesdown Common. Their improvement considerations had included decluttering, wayfinding, surfacing, dropped kerbs, planting and an improved crossing of the A22.
The project will complement the proposed TFL crossing over the A22 as well as the wayfinding already completed as part of the Good Growth Fund.
Engagement dates
As part of their work, Sustrans will be hosting volunteering community gardening days at Kenley Train Station on:
- Sunday 6th October (10am – 2pm), To clear out vegetation at the Kenley Station Garden and prepare the ground for planting.
- Saturday 26th October (10am – 2pm), To plant wildflower seeds/bulbs that are native to Riddlesdown Common, a stone’s throw from Kenley Station.
Each day will also include a ranger-led walk around Riddlesdown Common.
