The council is consulting on a proposal for revised parking charges.
There are a lot of different charges so the attached document is rather long but broadly the proposals would see shoppers benefit from one hour’s free parking at our district centres. This is already available in some local high streets, but this policy extends this to all Croydon's district centres. The maximum stay in all district centres would be increased to two hours, with reduced fees for the second hour, encouraging residents to enjoy more time at their local shops.
Other changes include reducing parking charges in West Croydon Station car park and reducing the charges for longer stays in areas where there are 12-hour maximum on-street bays.
The council is also proposing to update emissions-based parking charges for on-street parking, residents and business permits, and resident visitor parking. The current 90% discount for electric vehicles will be reduced to a 25% discount, still providing an incentive to choose lower emission vehicles while making the system fairer for all.
The phasing out of the parking ticket machines due to the cessation of the 3G network means the ticketing and payment will primarily through the Ringgo App with a telephone number option. There will also be an option to use shops that offer the Paypoint service. Residents should be aware that they may incur a charge for using the Ringgo App if they have selected the option to receive text reminders. This can be removed in the settings section of the app.
