Manor Way/Woodside Road walkabout: Positive road resurfacing news
It was a pleasure to welcome Karen Agbabiaka, the Council’s relatively new Director for Sustainable Communities and Charlie Baker, Head of Environmental Services to Purley and Woodcote last week.
Since Karen and Charlie joined the Council last year, I have engaging with them and working with them on a number of issues, including:
- Successful tackling of a major rat infestation in the ward
- Lobbying for more road resurfacing
- Feeding back issues from the Purley Parking Pilot
We decided to have a walkabout on Manor Way and Woodside Road, two streets where we’ve had a number of emails about issues from road damage, tree pruning and street cleaning.
It was a delight to see tree pruning taking place during our visit, with many of Manor Way’s trees pruned in the last few weeks. I understand there are a couple more to do, but a massive shout out to officers for addressing concerns I have raised over the last few months and to the tree team for undertaking this work.
Local resident, John joined us, and we discussed the new street cleaning contract, better monitoring when it comes to street cleaning and missed areas, getting rid of the moss on the roads as well as fixing pavement damage.
On Woodside Road, we also identified some issues like a broke utility box which has been reported.
Road resurfacing
I’ve had numerous meeting meetings and correspondence about road resurfacing in my ward. Under the previous administration, Purley & Woodcote’s roads were largely neglected, and it has been my mission to get this rectified.
I am therefore thrilled to let residents know that after months of lobbying, Manor Way will be resurfaced in full, some time this summer! I also very much hope to provide a further update soon on other local roads.
My thanks also go to John and other Manor Way/Woodside Road residents who have been pushing us on ensuring cleaner, tidier streets, and to Karen and Charlie, who are committed to working effectively with local councillors and who are striving to deliver more of a customer-focused approach. I am grateful for their efforts in my ward to date - we are moving in the right direction, but there is still a way to go.
