I’ve been pushing for more bins across Purley & Woodcote since my election, and a number of residents and community groups have been in touch about the lack of sufficient bin provision locally.
Despite efforts by the street cleaning team on a daily basis, litter and flytipping remain a big issue.
Back in October, I blogged about the new bin by the old Sainsbury's/Leisure Centre forecourt near the community seating area placed there on a trial basis for four weeks.
A few weeks later, I met with a Council officer, Ian White who assured me that the bin can remain there for the foreseeable. I also pushed for additional bins in the district centre and at the back of Purley Station before the steps down to Godstone Road, and he said the Council would look into this further for me.
I am delighted that Council officers have listened and have placed more bins on Purley High Street, maintained bins on the Brighton Road and placed a new bin at the rear of Purley Station. I took some photos this morning and counted seven within the district centre from what I could see.
I am grateful to Ian and others for ensuring this bin provision. It may not solve every issue regarding flytipping and street cleaning, but I think the extra bins will go some way to making a positive difference.
