Overnight and probably as a result of the torrential rain, I was alerted by a Facebook posting to the fact that part of the ceiling in Downlands Precinct (between High Street & Brighton Rd) had collapsed.
I was there at 0930 today and it was clear that there was a potential danger to any member of the public walking through the passage, so I called the 999 Fire Service. They arrived in less than 5 minutes from Purley fire station, sealed off the passage and started pulling down some of the loose plaster to remove the risk to anyone passing through.
I was glad to be able to help the community in this unusual situation.
