It was a great pleasure to join in the fun, food, performance, music and parade that all came together on Sunday 31st July at the Croydon Carnival on London Road. The community stands, the stage and the colourful costumes and the variety of warm music and performances meant that Croydon celebrated despite some wind and rain.
I was fascinated today (10th August) to join the Mayor and Carol Roberts and John Hickman from the Croydon Natural History and Scientific Society at the Phipson Exhibition taking place in the Croydon Clocktower until 27th September. In early 1900 Phipson was commissioned by the Council to produce colour paintings of the buildings and architecture that made up Croydon. It is fascinating to examine the paintings and see what has changed and what remains the same in Croydon today.
This week we also have ‘Stories from the Garden’ taking place at Park Hill Park and a Street Culture Festival taking place in the Whitgift Centre and Central every weekend in August. There are so many events going on in August that the best place to visit is CultureCroydon.com so you don’t miss out on the variety of events.
Finally I wanted to mention the Croydon Community Lottery, this is a fun and new way to support your favourite Croydon Charity or voluntary sector organisation and win prizes too. The Croydon Community Lottery is run by Croydon Voluntary Action and you can fin out more information here https://www.croydoncommunitylottery.co.uk
