There are about 35 care homes in Purley, and the newest is Chestnut Gardens on Foxley Lane which opened about three months ago. They are very keen to engage with the local community, and the most recent exploit was to welcome a group of Barchester employees who had cycled all round their care homes in the South of England. The tour finished at Chestnut Gardens where a welcoming jazz band and a splendid tea had been laid out. Unfortunately, the cyclists themselves were delayed on the journey so they didn't arrive till much later than was attended. However, the management kindly allowed us to enjoy the splendid catering as planned, so we hope that there was enough food left over to feed the hungry cyclists!
