The three ward councillors received an e mail from Nat West with the unwelcome news that they intend to close their branch in South End in July
I responded on behalf of the three of us expressing our dismay at this decision that leaves the “village” of South End local area without a bank. Lloyd Bank closed their branch here some years ago.it is an area that houses numbers of very vulnerable residents due to the nature of the housing. While the majority of residents probably use online banking that is not possible for some of our more vulnerable residents. I asked how Nat West intended to support these residents and the response detailed mitigating actions that would be taken to support them.
It still however a blow to this area making it even more difficult for businesses that have struggled since Covid and the current cost of living crisis.
